Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, July 27, 2008.

Tropical Storm Fung-wong is expected to make landfall over Taiwan early on Monday. The storm will hit as a typhoon with winds around 155 to 167 km/hour when it makes landfall. Taiwan can expect very heavy rainfall to accompany the storm, and flooding will be a threat.

Lingering low pressure will produce persistent rainfall over Japan and the Korean Peninsula on Sunday. The rain is expected to be light to moderate, and flooding could be an issue across the region. Northeastern China and southeastern Russia could also see some clouds and scattered showers from the system. A separate low pressure system will trigger widespread cloudy conditions and rain across central Russia, Mongolia, and central China on Sunday. The rainfall will range from scattered light rain to areas of localized heavy rain. Most of the heaviest of the rain is expected to be in central Russia, and move eastward as the day progresses. Meanwhile, Southeast Asia can expect the seasonable wet weather while the Middle East will be dry and very hot.

Temperatures across most of the continent will range from the mid-20s(C) to near 40(C), with teens(C) in parts of Mongolia and China. Western India and the Middle East will see temperatures rise well into the 40s(C).

In Australia, a cold front will move onshore in West Australia on Sunday, bringing a line of moderate to heavy rain to the southwestern part of the continent. Onshore flow will produce scattered showers across Victoria, New South Wales, as well as parts of Queensland and South Australia. High pressure will keep the rest of the continent dry.

Temperatures across the continent will range from the lower to mid-30s(C) in the northern part of Australia down to the single digits along the coast of Victoria and New South Wales.

Dr. Jeff Masters

A tropical disturbance (97L) in the mid-Atlantic ocean consists of a closed circulation with one spot of heavy thunderstorm activity to the northeast. The disturbance is under about 20 knots of wind shear and is over waters of about 26.5°C, and there is some dry air to the west. These are very marginal conditions for tropical storm formation. Conditions will gradually become more favorable for development over the few days, but none of the computer models are dev...

Did you know that...

Amazingly, Pueblo, Colo. set both its record low and high temperatures on this date in 1993. The morning low was 52 degrees, but the temperature quickly rose to a high of 101 degrees in the afternoon.
